SDSC Data Central
Today's research depends upon data. Research generates data at astounding rates that increase each year. This data is the product of millions of hours of experimental observations or computation time by researchers, scientists, and engineers who translate data into new discoveries and who share their results in community data collections for future research. The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is a leader in data management for researchers, providing expertise, infrastructure, and tools.
Expertise
SDSC has responded to the increasing demand by the domain communities by actively collaborating with researchers and national scale projects and by providing the computational and storage infrastructure to keep pace with the growing wealth of information in the research communities. Our systems, allocations, and consulting staff work together to meet the needs of our users by integrating our computational and data storage resources and by helping researchers manage, mine, analyze, publish, and share their data. More on data expertise and data services at SDSC.
Data Collections
SDSC hosts a number of both public and private databases and data collections that serve a wide range of scientific domains. These collections represent years of work by collaborating teams of researchers, and they may contain sensor data, visual simulations, or libraries of highly refined and analyzed data. They also provide contact information for collaborating scientists, engineers, and students worldwide. View the list of data collections.
Storage
Total capacity for storage at SDSC includes over 1 Petabyte (PB) of disk storage and 18 petabytes (PB) of archival tape storage. We are excited to announce that the Data Allocations program is now available, providing access for the US academic research community to these tape and disk resources—more than 400 TB of disk space is reserved for the program. In addition to expanded access to SDSC's Data Central facilities for data collection (flat files) and database hosting, the program offers a wide range of data management, analysis, and mining expertise.
